Something as simple as syrup is filled with toxic ingredients.  “No High Fructose Corn Syrup” would lead us to believe it’s a healthier alternative to regular syrup.  But as you will see below, it’s anything BUT healthy.  I used to love Mrs. Butterworth’s syrup.  LOVED it.  It was actually hard for me to make the switch because real Maple Syrup tastes, well, different.  It’s actually sweeter, so I don’t use as much of it.  And I find that I don’t “crave” more when I’m done.  Interesting right?Let’s look at the ingredients in this supposedly “healthier” syrup. (You know, because there isn’t any High Fructose Corn Syrup in there.)First ingredient: corn syrup (GMO).  Second ingredient: liquid sugar.  Then you have the artificial flavors (likely GMO), and finally preservatives and caramel color.  Yummy right?  Sodium Benzoate is heavily debated with regards to safety (you can read some brief info HERE), but it’s been phased out of many items in the UK and other countries over health concerns, including hyperactivity in children.  Now, add that to the fact that there are 26 grams of sugar in 2 tablespoons of syrup, and we have a recipe for disaster at school.  Yikes!  Going back to my previous notes, with real maple syrup I probably only use one or two tablespoons on my pancakes, but when I used Mrs. Butterworth’s, I probably used 4 tablespoons or more.  Could you imagine pouring 4 tablespoons of table sugar on your child’s waffles?  Interesting thought, right?  By the way, the only ingredient listed on the back of the Real Maple Syrup is, yep, you guessed it, Real Maple Syrup. I take it a step further and buy organic maple syrup in order to avoid pesticides as well. And I can tell you that you get what you pay for with maple syrup.  The bottle on the left was more expensive, but it tastes soooooo good, and much better than the 365 version. These are my usual products.
