Finding Clean bio picture

When my son started having allergic reactions to multiple foods, I tried to find reasons to explain what was happening. After much research, I discovered that our food system is broken. Beyond that discovery, I also learned that we are exposed to toxic chemicals in almost every aspect of our daily lives. I was overwhelmed with information and frustrated by the things I couldn't control. One day I found myself crying in the grocery store, reading label after label, knowing that I didn't want to feed my family this way any longer.

And so began my journey to research, learn, and find a way to live a cleaner life. It's still a work in progress but, using the 80/20 rule, I very much enjoy the challenge. Finding Clean is a way for me to share my discoveries with the world, and to show people that change doesn't have to be so hard.

So here I am, hopefully changing the world (or at least my little corner of it). If you want to join in, start HERE at the beginning.

Change is good

In almost every aspect of life, change is often viewed as something negative.  Back in my corporate office days, just speaking the word “change” would ignite fear in most people.  I’ve discovered (the hard way), that change is almost ALWAYS a good thing.  It’s often painful, but still good. Changing the way my family eats […]

The Spice Packets

One of the biggest “a-ha” moments for me was when I started reading the ingredients on my favorite spice packets.  You know, taco seasoning, ranch dip, gravy packets.  I had never given it much thought before, I just assumed that’s how you make taco meat, or that’s how you make ranch dip.  Is there any […]

All purpose cleaner

I used to use Clorox Anywhere.  It’s touted as safe – even for pacifiers.  But, according to EWG, these ingredients really aren’t so family friendly.  (Here is the rating info).  I recently made the switch to the Whole Foods Brand “Green Mission” All Purpose Spray.  It’s a huge bottle, inexpensive, works great, and is completely […]

A healthy breakfast?

I have recently heard about commercials that suggest eating Nutella on toast with a glass of milk for breakfast.  Really?  At 21 grams of sugar (in just 2 tablespoons), that seems a bit odd to me.  Now I’ll be the first to admit that Nutella has a particularly yummy, and quite possibly, addicting flavor.  I […]

Liz - I am cracking up, because I was headed to the pantry to eat a little Nutella with some of those Trader Joe’s pita crackers you’ve gotten me hooked on (love the salty with the sweet) – and in hiding, while everyone was at school or napping. I didn’t, and plan to look for Justin’s. I’ll be interested to look at the label on TJ’s version, too.
